Subsea Asset Location Technologies Ltd (SALT) is a spin-out company from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), a research agency of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). The company was formed to exploit a new passive sonar reflector technology for the commercial marketplace. The product SonarBell™ works by focusing the sound energy like a lens to amplify sound levels and reflect them to the sender. This ability is delivered solely through the mechanical properties of the chosen materials and its construction.

A profitable exit was achieved by Midven in 2011 following a sale of the Rainbow Seed Fund’s shares to the majority owner of the business, a private individual.
